Data Spaces Symposium 2025
The Data Spaces Symposium 2025, held in Warsaw on March 11 and 12, brought together over 800 participants from 40 countries to explore the evolving landscape of data spaces. A key focus was the energy sector, emphasizing the role of data spaces in accelerating the energy transition and supporting the European Green Deal.
The energy session featured keynote addresses from Cristina Maier and Kristóf Almásy of the European Commission. They highlighted how data spaces serve as catalysts for the energy transition, promoting secure, interoperable, and privacy-focused data sharing among stakeholders while ensuring data sovereignty. This collaborative approach is pivotal in creating a unified market for data, fostering innovation, and driving Europe's digital transformation in line with the Green Deal objectives.
Georg Hartner introduced the upcoming INSIEME project, aimed at deploying the Common European Energy Data Space. This initiative seeks to enhance cross-sector collaboration and data interoperability within the energy domain. Additionally, Charukeshi Joglekar from Fraunhofer FIT presented outcomes from the Energy Data Spaces Cluster, including the blueprint and the recently released IDSA position paper on the Interoperability Framework in Energy Data Spaces. This position paper outlines the European strategy for data sharing in the energy sector, emphasizing the establishment of governance frameworks, legislative backgrounds, and practical use cases to support the green energy transition.
The symposium underscored the critical role of data spaces in achieving a sustainable and efficient energy future. By facilitating secure and interoperable data sharing, these initiatives are set to unlock new opportunities for energy optimization and innovation across Europe.
