OSMSES/ComForEn 2024

The OSMSES & ComForEn 2024 event is a joint conference dedicated to open-source modeling, simulation, and communication technologies in the energy sector. It took place from September 3-6, 2024 in Vienna, Austria, and brought together experts from academia, industry, and the open-source community.

Attendees had the chance to engage in technical sessions, workshops, and panel discussions on topics such as real-time simulation, hardware-in-the-loop applications, and open-source interoperability. A notable session included the introduction of EMINENT, a framework aimed at assessing and advancing community maturity in open-source software and standardization in the energy sector, developed by our project.

Our project was involved in the OSMSES & ComForEn 2024 event with the two sessions:

  1. Paper Session on Real-time Simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop
Part of this session was a paper presentation of our int:net colleague Thanakorn Penthong focusing on "Hardware-in-the-Loop Validation of AC/DC Service Restoration including Industrial IED and Communication Protocols."
  2. Tutorial: EMINENT – Interoperability Maturity Assessment
This tutorial, led by Gianluca Lipari, Alberto Dognini and Joep van Genuchten, introduced EMINENT, a framework to assess and enhance the maturity of open-source software and standardization communities in the energy domain. Participants assessed their communities’ ability to produce standardized, interoperable models. The workshop emphasized how these assessments can guide future development and foster collaboration, critical for managing modern, decentralized energy systems.

We were thrilled to participate in OSMSES & ComForEn 2024, contributing to the dynamic discussions and advancements in open-source energy system modeling and communications.
